Every email builder promises the same three things: drag-and-drop editing, responsive templates and easy export to your email platform. A feature page can’t tell you what happens in week three. That’s when a layout shifts after export, or a teammate gets logged out mid-edit.
User reviews can. So instead of comparing feature lists, we went through the public reviews of seven dedicated email builders on G2 and Capterra: more than 1,300 reviews in total, checked on October 29, 2026.
For each tool, you’ll find its ratings, what reviewers praise again and again, what they complain about, and the kind of team it suits. Short on time? Jump to the comparison tables.
How We Picked and Ranked the Tools
This list covers dedicated email builders: tools where you design an email, then send it through your ESP (email service provider). Editors built into sending platforms, such as Mailchimp or Klaviyo, are a different category, so they aren’t here.
To make the list, a tool had to meet three conditions:
- It’s listed in G2’s Email Template Builder category
- It has at least 40 reviews on G2
- Its average G2 rating is 4.3 or higher
For each tool, we recorded:
- The overall rating and review count on G2 and Capterra
- Three G2 sub-scores on a 10-point scale: meets requirements, ease of use and quality of support
- Pros and cons that come up in more than one review
- The company size of the people reviewing it
How the order works. Star ratings barely separate these tools: six of the seven score 4.7 or 4.8 on at least one platform. So we ranked them by G2’s “meets requirements” score, the reviewers’ average answer to “Does this product meet your needs?”. Ties go to the tool with more reviews behind the score.
Ratings move every week. Treat the numbers below as a snapshot from October 29, 2026, and check the live profiles before you buy.

| Tool | Meets Requirements | Ease of Use | Quality of Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stripo | 9.5 | 9.4 | 9.4 |

1. Stripo: Best Overall for Teams that Export to Several ESPs
Ratings: 4.7 on G2 (171 reviews) and 4.8 on Capterra (105 reviews). On Capterra, 103 of the 105 reviews give 4 or 5 stars.
Stripo is a drag-n-drop and HTML email builder. You design an email once, then export it to the platform you send from; Stripo lists 90+ ESP and CRM integrations. It has the highest “meets requirements” score in this group: 9.5 out of 10 from 143 G2 reviewers.
What Reviewers Praise
- No code needed. This is the most common theme. Marketers and nonprofit teams build polished emails without HTML skills.
- Reusable templates and modules. Reviewers save their own blocks and templates, which keeps every send on brand. One nonprofit uses them to send multilingual newsletters to tens of thousands of subscribers.
- Export without rework. Several reviews mention moving finished emails into a CRM or ESP in a few clicks. As one Capterra reviewer put it, Stripo “helps us solve the problem of slow, messy email template iteration.”
- Support and value. Capterra reviewers rate customer service and value for money 4.8 out of 5 each.
What Reviewers Complain About
- Comments are hidden while you edit, so you switch modes to see feedback.
- Text-and-image layouts can look slightly different in the final email, mostly in proportions and spacing.
- Signing in on one account can log out a teammate who’s working at the same time.
- Some find the template library overwhelming and want sharper search filters.
- Reviewers mention occasional editor bugs, usually fixed fast by support. One had a Mailchimp export where only part of the content updated.
- The only 1-star review on Capterra is about affiliate program terms, not the editor.
Who it Suits
Works best when you produce emails for more than one ESP, or you want a no-code editor that still lets you open the HTML. Most reviewers work in small teams: 59% at companies with 50 or fewer employees, 35% at mid-market firms.
Think twice if you need multi-step approvals with formal sign-offs. Stripo has comments and user roles, while Stensul and Knak build their whole workflow around review and approval.
Pricing: a free plan is available; paid plans start at $20 per month.
Want the reviews themselves, not just the averages? The Stripo reviews hub gathers 364 of them from six platforms on one page: G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, Product Hunt, TrustRadius and GoodFirms. You can filter them by rating and year, and every excerpt links back to the original review.
2. Postcards by Designmodo: Best for Solo Designers on a Budget
Ratings: 4.7 on G2 (113 reviews).
Postcards is Designmodo’s email builder: you stack pre-designed modules and tweak them. Its reviewers are mostly freelancers and small teams, 77% of them at companies with 50 or fewer people. They score it 9.3 out of 10 for meeting their needs.
What Reviewers Praise
- A short learning curve. Ease of use and drag-and-drop editing are its most-tagged strengths on G2.
- Polished modules. Reviewers like how quickly a newsletter looks professional.
- AI help. One G2 reviewer wrote: “The new AI functionality is awesome, I use it every day.”
- Where it’s heading. Product direction scores 9.7, higher than Stripo (9.4) and RGE Studio (9.5).
What Reviewers Complain About
- Complaints are rare. G2’s most-tagged downside is “limited templates”, raised in just 2 reviews.
- One review tags complexity as a drawback.
- Support scores 9.2, slightly below Stripo (9.4) and well above RGE Studio (8.8).
Who it Suits
Works best when you’re a freelancer or a small team that wants good-looking newsletters fast and at a low price.
Think twice if your team works across many sending platforms: Designmodo’s integrations page lists 18 ESPs, compared with 90+ at Stripo.
Pricing: a free plan is available; paid plans cost $16 or $24 per month.
3. RGE Studio (formerly Beefree): Best for Quick, Template-led Builds
Ratings: 4.7 on G2 (349 reviews) and 4.8 on Capterra (207 reviews). That’s the largest review base in this list.
In May 2026, Beefree renamed its email builder RGE Studio, after its Really Good Emails brand. Many reviews still use the older names, Beefree or BEE Pro, so search for all three when you research it.
What Reviewers Praise
- Ease of use. It’s the top G2 tag (34 reviews), and Capterra rates it 4.9 out of 5.
- Templates. 19 G2 reviews highlight the template range, and reviewers reuse saved elements across emails.
- Fast setup. 13 G2 reviews tag easy setup. One Capterra reviewer says their team was up and running within hours.
- Clean HTML. Reviewers export it to CRMs and marketing automation tools, with Pardot mentioned often.
What Reviewers Complain About
- Design limits. G2 tags limited templates (5 reviews) and limited customization (4), such as control over image sizes and column breaks.
- Asset management. On Capterra, reviewers ask for better image organization and subfolders.
- Growing costs. Some mention extra fees for hosted images and bandwidth, and a rising bill as they add users.
- Export gaps. A few report lost elements or small differences in Mailchimp and webmail.
- No AMP. As one G2 reviewer noted: “AMP tools / features are not available with Beefree.”
- Support. It scores 8.8 on G2, the lowest of the top four tools here, and 4.6 on Capterra.
Who it Suits
Works best when a small team needs to go from blank page to a sendable email fast, starting from a template.
Think twice if you manage lots of images across clients or plan to add many seats. That’s where reviewers report friction and extra costs.
Pricing: a free Starter plan; Professional costs $30 per month ($25 billed yearly), Business $160 per month ($134 billed yearly).
4. Stensul: Best for Large Brands with Strict Brand Rules
Ratings: 4.7 on G2 (124 reviews).
Stensul is built for enterprise marketing teams: 55% of its G2 reviewers work at companies with more than 1,000 employees. Teams build emails from approved modules, inside brand and compliance guardrails.
What Reviewers Praise
- Ease of use. It’s the most-tagged strength, along with an intuitive interface.
- A short path to the ESP. One G2 reviewer sums up the routine: “All I have to do is set an email name, plug in the content, and upload to Marketing Cloud!”
- Easy team training. Several reviews say new colleagues pick it up quickly.
- Support. At 9.7 out of 10, it’s the highest support score in this list.
What Reviewers Complain About
- A few reviews (3) still tag a steep learning curve at the start.
- Copying issues and general limitations come up in 2 reviews each.
- Some users struggle with formatting errors that are hard to trace.
- G2’s review summary notes that some users miss an undo feature.
- Setup takes time: about 2 months on average, according to G2 reviewers.
Who it Suits
Works best when dozens of marketers across regions produce emails, and brand or legal teams need to stay in control.
Think twice if you’re a small team or need to start this month. Stensul publishes no prices and sells through custom quotes.
Pricing: custom quote only.
5. TOPOL.io: Best for SaaS Teams that Embed an Editor
Ratings: 4.7 on G2 (47 reviews) and 4.5 on Capterra (33 reviews).
TOPOL.io now positions itself mainly as a white-label editor that software companies embed in their own product. It also offers a standalone web app, Topol PRO. Most reviews describe the standalone app, and 94% come from small businesses.
What Reviewers Praise
- Ease of use. At 9.7 on G2, it’s the highest score in this list, and ease of admin matches it.
- Emails that render right. One reviewer called it “one of the few responsive email editors that emails viewed in Gmail actually look right.”
- Flexibility. Reviewers like custom blocks and the option to edit code directly.
- A responsive team. Several reviews mention quick, personal answers to their questions.
What Reviewers Complain About
- Dated feedback. Most reviews date from 2020–2021, so they describe an older version of the product.
- HTML changes. A 2026 review reports that pasted HTML gets modified on import.
- Templates and trial. Older reviews ask for more template categories and a longer free trial.
- Value. Capterra reviewers rate value for money 4.2, its lowest sub-score.
Who it Suits
Works best when you’re building a product, such as a CRM or an e-commerce platform, and want to give your customers an email editor.
Think twice if you’re a marketer who just wants to design and send. For that use, the review base is small and mostly older.
Pricing: a free version is available; paid plans start at $70 per month.
6. Knak: Best for Marketo and Salesforce Teams
Ratings: 4.7 on G2 (137 reviews), 124 of them 5-star.
Knak builds emails and landing pages for mid-sized and enterprise marketing teams. About half of its G2 reviewers work at mid-market companies and a third at enterprises. Many reviews describe syncing finished emails to Marketo or Salesforce’s Pardot.
What Reviewers Praise
- Ease of use. “Knak is extremely easy to use!” is a typical line; ease of use and intuitiveness are its top tags.
- Independence. Non-technical marketers build emails themselves instead of waiting on the email team.
- Faster reviews. One team says it used to review emails with screenshots and redlining, and Knak replaced that routine.
- Previews. Reviewers value cross-device and dark mode previews, plus preview links that cut down on test sends.
- Support and roadmap. Support scores 9.5, and product direction scores 9.8, the highest in this list.
What Reviewers Complain About
- Price. A May 2026 reviewer calls it expensive and asks for plans that suit smaller businesses.
- AI placement. Reviewers want AI email creation inside the builder, not only at the folder level.
- Sync glitches. Some links and images break when emails sync to other platforms.
- Interactivity. A few want more interactive email features.
Who it Suits
Works best when your team runs on Marketo or Salesforce and wants marketers to ship on-brand emails without developers.
Think twice if the budget is tight or you need to start quickly. G2 reviewers report about 2 months to implement.
Pricing: custom quote only.
7. Chamaileon: Best for Teams Built Around Reusable Blocks
Ratings: 4.3 on G2 (75 reviews) and 4.5 on Capterra (10 reviews).
Chamaileon is a no-code builder that works with any ESP, aimed at marketing and CRM teams. Half of its G2 reviewers work at mid-market companies.
What Reviewers Praise
- Reusable blocks. One G2 reviewer’s favorite feature is “the ability to save ‘blocks’ to reuse on different templates.”
- Brand control. G2’s review summary says users can tailor newsletters closely to their brand.
- Creative range. Reviewers mention plenty of design options, plus personalization and dynamic content.
What Reviewers Complain About
- Lower scores across the board. It has the lowest G2 scores in this list: 8.4 for ease of use, 8.3 for support and 8.7 for meeting requirements.
- Speed. A Capterra reviewer feels the tool “makes the task take a bit longer than it really should.”
- Roadmap doubts. Product direction scores 8.1, also the lowest here.
- Thin Capterra data. With 10 reviews, it’s hard to spot trends there.
Who it Suits
Works best when a mid-sized team wants one shared library of reusable blocks for several sending platforms.
Think twice if you need quick onboarding or transparent pricing.
Pricing: custom quote; G2 lists a starting price of $400 per month.
Five Mistakes to Avoid when Reading Email Builder Reviews
Putting seven tools’ reviews side by side shows where buyers usually go wrong.
- Comparing star ratings only. Here, the gap between 4.7 and 4.8 is noise. Sub-scores say more: support ranges from 8.3 to 9.7 across the same seven tools.
- Ignoring review dates. Most TOPOL.io reviews date from 2020–2021, and Beefree’s builder changed its name in 2026. Filter to the last 12–18 months first.
- Skipping company size. Postcards reviews come mostly from small businesses, Stensul’s from enterprises. A glowing review from a 5,000-person company may not fit a team of five.
- Skipping the “dislike” answers. The cons predict your daily friction. Export complaints matter most: if emails shift in your ESP, every send needs extra checks.
- Mixing product and policy complaints. Some 1-star reviews are about billing, refunds or affiliate terms, not the editor. They still matter, but they tell you nothing about the design experience.
One more tip: G2 shows when a seller invited the reviewer and labels reviews whose authors got an incentive. They aren’t fake, but read a mix of invited and organic reviews.
How to Choose: A 3-step Test
- List where your emails go. Write down every ESP and CRM you send from, today and next year. Cross out builders that can’t export to all of them.
- Match the tool to your team. Solo designer or small team: Stripo, Postcards or RGE Studio. Enterprise with brand and legal sign-off: Stensul or Knak. Building your own software product: TOPOL.io.
- Rebuild your last real campaign. Use the free plan or trial. Export the email to your ESP, then send tests to Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail. Time the whole run and note what breaks.
The builder that gets through step 3 with the fewest fixes is your answer, whatever its star rating.

Final Thoughts
Across 1,300+ reviews, one pattern repeats: almost every builder is easy to use, so ease alone won’t decide for you. What sets them apart is how cleanly emails reach your ESP, how fast support answers, and whether the tool fits your team’s size.
If you want one place to start, Stripo pairs the highest “meets requirements” score in this group with a free plan. Shortlist two or three tools, run the 3-step test above, and let your own campaign make the final call.
